Begin. Again.

Galatians 2:19-21 (Message) What actually took place is this: I tried keeping rules and working my head off to please God, and it didn’t work. So I quit being a “law man” so that I could be God’s man. Christ’s life showed me how, and enabled me to do it. I identified myself completely with him. Indeed, I have been crucified with Christ. My ego is no longer central. It is no longer important that I appear righteous before you or have your good opinion, and I am no longer driven to impress God. Christ lives in me. The life you see me living is not “mine,” but it is lived by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me. I am not going to go back on that.

Is it not clear to you that to go back to that old rule-keeping, peer-pleasing religion would be an abandonment of everything personal and free in my relationship with God? I refuse to do that, to repudiate God’s grace. If a living relationship with God could come by rule-keeping, then Christ died unnecessarily.

Have you ever thought about why you believe, what you believe? Why be Christian? Why not take up another religion and pursue its truth and rituals. What makes living as a Christian any different than living as a Muslim or Jewish person? Why not believe only in the power of me (Humanism)?

The simple answer for me is, God loves us so much that God is not seeking another religious person, but rather people who desire to live and operate out of a true relationship. That was the whole purpose of Christ. To mend the broken, defiled, and ritualistic religion we held about God.

As we pursue this new ministry in Christ, I have asked our group to push the reset button on our faith. Completely resetting everything we thought we knew about God and centering our lives on Christ. When I came across this quote by Karl Barth in 2006, it altered my faith outlook. Karl Barth in the book Dogmatics in Outline said:

“He, the One, lightens, and the Christian moves in His light. What distinguishes the Christian is that [the Christian] stands in this cone of light which proceeds from Christ. But this existence in the light is not a selfish purpose, but the Christian moves in this light, in order to be a light.”

As a Christian, everything I do, say, think, and the choices I make has its center, starting point, and purpose in Christ. This causes us to not start our faith in doctrine, religious practices, rituals, and other traditions we don’t understand, but rather begin with the one who John 1:1 says was there in the beginning. Christ is the beginning, the end, and everything in between. This is the firm foundation Lifework Christian Ministries will have from the outset. We are not starting with bylaws and other formal doctrinal messages. We have to begin with Christ.

The mission is to provide an atmosphere of unity in Christ among a culturally diverse and progressive community of people through preaching, teaching, and living God’s message of reconciliation and mission in the community and throughout the world. (2 Cor. 5:17-21)

This unity. Reconciliation. Diversity. Mission. This ministry can only be accomplished with Christ at the center of all aspects. So as we step out of the boat at the end of September, we must keep our eyes focused on Christ, our purpose.

So while you are supporting this ministry financially by clicking donate on the side, please continue to pray for God’s purposes to be fulfilled in and through us. This is a major season of transition for us and we need your support.

If you are interested in joining the movement send me a message here or on Facebook.

Upload Sunday

I know it is after midnight, but I will share this day with you in my “Upload Sunday” (early Monday)

  • I woke up at 7am to prepare for worship and needed to get to the church by 9am.
  • After doing youth worship at Geist Christian Church I closed down our worship service around 11:45am and headed to lead worship at New Revelation Christian Church at 12:30pm.
  • After church finished around 2:45pm I was able to drive home by 3:30pm for a quick power nap.
  • Got up at 4:30 to make an emergency run to Walmart to pick up some toilet paper, coffee, and other needed products for the house, which took about 45mins. (35 of which was standing in the line.)
  • Got home changed clothes and headed to the Middle School student’s Billman Bash from 5:30-8:30pm.
  • Came home and took my beautiful queen out for a late dinner from 9:30-11:45pm. (Quality time is important.)
  • Now I am sitting to blog.
  • Working hard is more than making a dollar, it has to be about making a difference.
  • But I need you to support our new ministry “Lifework Christian Church” TODAY!
  • Without your support people will not get to know Jesus Christ and Christians will continue to be divided.
  • It’s time for a paradigm SHIFT. And we are it. Let’s take this world by storm TOGETHER!!!
  • Click the DONATE button and let’s make this happen.

Faith to Follow

“Keep your eyes on Jesus, who both began and finished this race we’re in. Study how he did it. Because he never lost sight of where he was headed—that exhilarating finish in and with God—he could put up with anything along the way: Cross, shame, whatever. And now he’s there, in the place of honor, right alongside God. When you find yourselves flagging in your faith, go over that story again, item by item, that long litany of hostility he plowed through. That will shoot adrenaline into your souls!” Hebrews 12:2-3

As we prepare to embark on this journey of faith, sometimes it get down right difficult. How do you believe God will supply something that doesn’t exist? How do you inspire people to believe in a hope, a dream, a goal. None of these things are easy. This faithwalk takes stamina to continue to press when it feels as if the walls are pressing against you.

This is where the Bible comes in. Throughout the Bible we have example after example of men and women who God called to carry out a mission. To most, these tasks were way beyond their skill sets, but God knew that the task was just hard enough to cause them to fight for their faith. The mission to fully follow God’s plan takes what our Jewish brothers and sisters call, “Chutzpah”.

Chutzpah is to have the audacity or nerve to do something courageous or outside of the box. Often the term is used negatively but there is something empowering about it. A young soldier shows chutzpah when he runs to the front lines to face the enemy and fight for his country. A young woman shows chutzpah when she is told repeatedly that she is not as strong nor as talented as men, but rises above and achieves greatness in sports and in academia. Jesus showed chutzpah when he stood before the Pharisees, Sadducees, and all the ruling parties of his time and never wavered on the truth of who he is.

This is what we must have as we follow God’s plan for our lives. This is what we ask of you as you support what God is doing. Whether you support our ministry financially, to help us raise our first $30-$50,000 or you want to join our team as we bring unity to the people of God through the power of living the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

We need you to join us in active faith as we follow God. This is a true faith walk. The only thing holding us up are the promises of God. Your support becomes to wind beneath our wings that will help us take flight.

Join us right now by doing two things:

1) Subscribe to this blog by clicking on the subscribe button on the side.

2) Click on the donate button and allow God to move your heart to connect with us with $20 or more.

I’m praying for you, you pray for me.

Grace and Blessings,

Pastor O.
