Merry Christmas

Merry Christmas World! This celebrating things is great relaxing with good people and enjoying relaxation while reflecting on all God has done through this year and many years before. Not that I have done everything right and perfect, but God has blessed because he is blessing. He shows favor because he is favor. He shows love because he is love.

When I accepted Christ so many years ago I accepted all that comes from God. This 2013 is the year to release all that God desires to birth or bring forth in me and in you. Don’t hold back push forward.

Let’s rise together as we embrace all 2013 has for us. May this be your year of favor and blessing! It’s already in you it’s time to release!

Let’s GO!

Launching into the Deep

Launching into the deep things of life and ministry are difficult. Since we did what was considered a soft launch of the church in Feb of this year, God has been preparing is for the ultimate release in Feb. 2013.

We are forming a multicultural group of Jesus followers who desire to live out the gospel through service. The most amazing thing is that this group has developed organically. Many in our group have been out of church for since their youth or hadn’t belonged to a faith family since college.

It is awesome as a pastor to see people reconnect with their faith in Christ and get fired up about spreading the love through service. We are a diverse movement for wholeness, which has gone beyond a thought or idea. From scratch, God has formed this faith family and by faith we are developing disciples for Christ.

Lots in store as we look toward the future. We’ve only just begun. The best is ahead of us and the troops are ready to spread God’s love to the ends of the earth. I love these folks and am excited to see how God will use us to cause change throughout the world.

Let’s launch into the deep Lifework and make Christ famous.

Let’s Go!

New Church from Scratch

No big name. No big money. Only big faith and hard work. Some think they know but they have no idea. With all the stress, long hours, and constant transition I wouldn’t trade this for the world.

God’s work is my Lifework. Let’s keep growing and maintaining the) blessings God keeps bringing.

We are doing this from scratch. One person at a time. We began with 8-12 people (depending on who you count) and now we have grown to about 50 in worship weekly since Feb. 12, 2012.

I believe God has more in-store for this faithful faith family, but it will take more work and lots of faith.

We will go from scratch to an awesome faith story.

Let’s Go!

Moving Forward!

Moving forward can either be the most exhilarating experience or the most frightful experience. Leading Lifework Christian Church through the Pre-Launch and now the Launch phase has been both. We have lost some people I had hoped would be with us through the end, but have gained others that have really been game changers.

Through it all God has continued to press on us to move forward. Today, we will talk about the third person of the Trinity, the Holy Spirit. This is a powerful message that will empower God’s people to move forward with the discovery and purpose of their gifts. Often times as new Christians come into the faith, we can be so hung up on our past failures or insecurities that we pay no attention to the POWER of Christ given to us called the Holy Spirit.

I am believing God will bless those who listen to His word and accept His call to change the world with a Love Revolution. This Revolution can only come through acknowledging that God is Love, faith in Jesus as Lord of the World, and the move of the Holy Spirit operating through God’s people.

So pray for us as we move forward to accomplish great things for God in our community and throughout the World.

Pineapple Upside-Down Cake! This is one of my favorite desserts everything from the pineapples to the brown sugar to the taste of the butter that moistens the cake. My mouth is watering as I think about it. One of my favorite things about the cake is that I have never had to make one. I have only enjoyed the fruits of someone elses labor. I have never shopped for the right ingredients or ran out of eggs and had to go back to the store. I have never burned a cake and had to start all over again or put too much batter in the pan and caused the cake to overflow. I have only sat down and enjoyed the finished product.

This is how I feel about church planting. Throughout my life I have enjoyed the fruits of years of consistent ministry put together and ready made for me. Now I am at the beginning stages of making a pineapple upside-down cake, for Jesus. Although I have never made the cake before, I have tasted one and I have read many books about what proper ingredients to purchase. The main thing I have learned that goes into this cake is a calling by God to do this.

I was called to church planting the day I said yes to becoming a disciple of Christ. The day I became serious about serving God with my life, Jesus signed me up for this calling of making disciples who make disciples. Lifework Christian Ministries will be just that a ministry that builds and prepares disciples for Christ’s work in our community and throughout the world.

This weekend as I closed down my ministry with the awesome youth of Geist Christian Church (DOC), I also give birth to Lifework Christian Ministries. This major faith walk comes with fear and humility, with joy and happiness, and all things that come with stepping out on faith.

As we start our journey towards our launch (February 12, 2012) I need you to do three things for me:

1) Pray – God’s favor, empowerment, and provisions over our ministry and my family.

2) Donate – Donate your time in prayer, support, and even in some of our service opportunities. Donate your talent in connecting with our attractional events and worship experiences. Donate your treasure through your financial gift of $20, $200, or $2,000. Any amount would help launch this Jesus ministry.

3) Pray – God’s had and leading in everything we do.

In a few short weeks we will hold our first attractional worship experience. Let’s get excited! Let’s make Jesus an awesome Pineapple Upside-Down Cake!

Passion meets People

One of the most amazing lesson I have learned this past week is that we must guard our passion from people. Let me explain. I found out this week that one of the pastors that inspired me to step out on faith has stepped down from the ministry he and his wife planted 3 years ago. This news floored me, but it also taught me a great lesson. Not everyone is meant to grab the vision and go.

In ministry there are a few different types of people:

1) Disciples (Reproducers)

  • These people hear the vision, feel the passion, and move towards the purpose that God has placed on the leader.
  • These people encourage others and follows where the leader goes.
  • These people support the ministry and vision financially, spiritually, personally and emotionally.
  • These people see and promote the importance of exponential growth and development.

2) The Crowd (Receivers)

  • These people are spiritually fed, healed, and inspired by the leader.
  • These people are very encouraging and enthusiastic about the vision and the leader, but may never follow.
  • These people encourage and embrace the vision, but never take hold of the purpose of the inspiration.
  • These people enjoy a cool, dynamic, spiritually and emotionally uplifting worship experience.

3) Haters (Pharisees, Sadducees, and Nay Sayers)

  • These people are never for you and will always seek to tear you down and discount the vision.
  • These people sometimes can infiltrate your team and cause destruction from the inside.
  • These people could care less about God’s movement and yet delight in gossip and disruption.

All of these people are needed to make the world go round, but it is important to accept people to play their proper role. We can not expect the crowd to play the role of the disciple. If they go sometimes, cool, if not cool. Also, we can’t spend our time trying to when the approval of the haters. Let them kick rocks. These lessons are taught through the example of Jesus’ ministry and we must be open to live out our ministry in this same way.

Allowing people to be themselves relieves us as leaders from unneeded stress and unfulfilled hopes. As we continue to grow ministry we will welcome all who desire to be in relationship with God through Jesus Christ, but recognize not everyone will express it through the vision set for the ministry. We would hope every person would catch fire, but we must guard our passion from people.

Be Blessed,

Pastor O
