Get Your Courage!

2 Timothy 1:6-7 “6 Therefore I remind you to stir up the gift of God which is in you through the laying on of my hands. 7 For God has not given us a spirit of fear (timidity, cowardice, to be afraid) but of power and of love and of a sound mind.”

No matter how strong we think we are or how much of a person of faith we believe ourselves to be, there are times when the situations and circumstances we face causes us to be a bit afraid. Often times this is when we are stepping into new territory or beginning a new phase of life.

As a young pastor, who is just beginning my journey into the unknown calling of new ministry, sometimes I get a bit shaken when the news received does not fit into my plans. When certain things happen that where not in my periphery. This is when that small whisper of “you won’t succeed” shakes something on the inside.

This is natural when you are stepping out on faith to accomplish that which God has placed inside of you. No matter how much you may be ready to turn and run like the cowardly lion, God reminds us throughout the Bible that His plan is for your success. I am encouraged today because I know that there is no weapon that can defeat what God has promised me. I know God’s plans and the thoughts he has towards me and they are plans for a successful and prosperous future. But it is not just for me, it is for you to.

God has not given you the spirit of fear, he has given you the power of the Holy Spirit that strengthens us to press on and press through. Remember that God is “able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us…” (Eph. 3:20) The key to this is to remember that God has placed this power inside of you. All that you need to accomplish the task ahead is inside of you. When you make Christ your Lord, you open yourself to be filled with the power of the Holy Spirit that is continuously perfecting God’s work in you.

God doesn’t want us to be shy with his gifts, but bold and loving and sensible. (Message – 2 Tim 1:7)

The worlds situations, circumstances, and temptations may try and get us off track, but WE will not be afraid we are moving forward, FULL STEAM AHEAD. We are walking with BOLDNESS, LOVE, and with a CLEAR VISION.

  1. Good points raised here. Thanks for that, but I have further thanks to deliver. I am color blind (tritanopia to be precise). I mainly use Safari browser (no idea if that is of any importance), and a large number of internet sites are tricky to read because of an inconsiderate choice of colors used. On your site, as the selection of colors is sensible, the design is amazingly clear and easy to read. I am not sure whether this was a deliberate and conscious act, or simply sheer chance, but you have my gratitude.
